What is the cheapest way to travel? Do you know how to travel without leaving home? Want to learn more about the world we live in? Want to learn culture, customs and maybe even some language? It's simple really! All you have to do is go out of your comfort zone and try a local Foreign food shop.

Today I tried this great little Russian Shop. All of the other customers were so kind, friendly and knowledgeable. One of the ladies was from Belarus and she was purchasing some sort of berry. I later learned that it was Sea Buckthorns and how healthy they are for you. It took awhile via google translate to figure it out. But as you see we did. There were two customers who were kind enough to answer my questions and look it up. How fun is that!!

They have a variety of frozen and canned food, breads, desserts, Russian Soda's, liquor, beer, candy, jams, mustard's, mayo, beets, pickled fish (looked like herring) and deli items. The deli had a variety of salads, cheeses, salamis and other wonderful looking items. What a variety of items to try on my next visit. While they only have a small menu I am hoping that they will eventually expand their menu. Maybe next time I will just ask the owners to make me one of their favorites?

This is a really quaint and IMHO dainty little shop that will make you feel as if you are in Europe. The owners are super kind and full of information. Today I had a latte. As one of the customers put it a real European Expresso Latte. If you have ever traveled to Europe then you understand her comment. If not go try the Latte here. I also got the opportunity to try the Russian Blinchiki with farmers cheese with a light topping of raspberry jam. The blinchiki is similar to a crepe. The texture is smooth and tasty. Keep in mind most American dessert food is overly sweet to Europeans. This blinchiki was semi sweet with a nice dairy tang to it. Super delicious and appealing to the eye. My husband got a raspberry like turnover that was cold. They did ask if he wanted it heated. He did not. It too was super good. I myself would have loved it heated. I also purchased a pear soda for my kids to try. I know they will be excited to try something from a different country.

If my family goes to restaurant with a different cultures food we learn to say at least "Please and Thank You". So I know how to say "Please and Thank You" in a bunch of different languages. So for Russian thank you is: Spaseeba! Your welcome: Pazhalooysta! Now you too have learned a little Russian.
